Bill Nichols’ Prescription:
Comics 10ccs of Jenevieve Broomall
I love Jen Broomall’s work and she’s an awesome person on top of that. The illustration she did of my OC Ursula for a sketchbook I was putting together because of the cover (where it belonged). Meet my friend Jen.

What inspires you to create and keeps you going?
Family and a love for the medium.
Do you have a set routine?
Yes, haha, it’s pretty boring though! Get up, get kids off to school, come home, and down 5 cups of coffee then draw like there is no tomorrow until it’s time to pick the kiddos back up!
What kind of output do you try to achieve?
I try to draw daily. Even if it’s not finished work I try to draw at least something every day. I carry a small sketchbooks with me everywhere.
What inspires you WHEN you create? Music? Noise? Silence?
When that GREAT idea hits me and I can’t think of anything else.
Who was the first comic book creator that influenced you to pursue this?
Mike DeBalfo! I met Mike online through deviant art and he was the first industry professional who was kind enough to talk shop and inspire. To this day the nicest person ever and good friend!
When did you realize you could follow this path yourself?
I had always liked the idea but never gave it a go until I was very pregnant with my first kid and laid off from my job. I had no other options but to go for it.
What do you find to be a challenge in creating? What else do you have to learn?
Buildings… they are my weak point right now. But because I carry my sketchbook I will stop and draw buildings until I’m used to them.
What keeps you motivated to get better?
I have this weird inner drive to keep improving. Kind of inner competitiveness that I keep trying to one-up myself. I don’t try to be better than other artists because they are on their own journey but I know I can constantly improve. Lots of “You can do better than this!!!”
Can you turn your brain (creativity) off (and on)?
NO! Hahaha! I can’t. I do r have to always draw but I think I’m hardwired this way.

What advice do you have for aspiring creators?
Don’t let failure ruin you—you’re going to fail, it’s how you handle failure that will make you better or worse.
Do you ever worry about running out of ideas?
I do! But it’s always when I have a ton of deadlines that I come up with 20 new ideas! Haha!
How do you handle the slow times?
I go to those 20 ideas that I had (because I wrote them down) and do those.
How do you feel about the industry?
I think it’s great! It’s hard work and don’t go into it thinking it’s a moneymaker—it’s not but if you’re passionate and have solid goals then it’s worth it.
Do you have a website? Where can people check out your work?
