Bill Nichols’ Prescription:
Comics 10ccs of Evan Quiring
What inspires you to create and keeps you going?
I’ve had some story ideas in my mind for nearly 20 years and just want to see them executed and in concrete form.
Do you have a set routine?
I don’t, unfortunately. I want to and will try to establish one in the new year.
What kind of output do you try to achieve?
Trying to get a book penciled and inked in three months (I currently also work a non-comics dayjob)
What inspires you WHEN you create? Music? Noise? Silence?
Usually listen to various podcasts
Who was the first comic book creator that influenced you to pursue this?
I’d have to say either Arthur Adams or Todd McFarlane – this was back in 1988
When did you realize you could follow this path yourself?
I think it was when I saw the Rob Liefeld Levi’s 501 Jeans commercial, back in the early ’90’s, lol
What do you find to be a challenge in creating?
Just finding enough time to get stuff finished.
What else do you have to learn?
Teach myself how to color in photoshop. Plus I’m always trying to improve my artwork and writing.
What keeps you motivated to get better?
The fact that I want to see this work done and in printed form.
Can you turn your brain (creativity) off (and on)?
Not really. Ideas will pop up in my mind at the weirdest of times so I make sure I either write them down or something.
Booster Shots
What advice do you have for aspiring creators?
Get your books done
Do you ever worry about running out of ideas?
No – I worry about running out of time trying to get my ideas in print.
How do you handle the slow times?
I don’t know. I just deal with situations as they come.
How do you feel about the industry?
I’m indifferent. I just focus on getting my books done and getting them distributed and out there. And then I hop onto the next project and hope people will dig it.
And do you have a website you would want to direct folks to?
